Online Seminar - Establishing a Professional Identity for Professionals in Oral Health

Seminar Description:

Oral health professionals learn what it means to be a member of their chosen profession starting from the time they consider a career choice. They continue integrating their sense of self within their profession and industry throughout their formal education and career. This course will help participants understand professional identity and how it develops generally and within the oral health professions of career paths. As the professional identity of dental hygienists is most diverse among the professions, the progression of professional identity formation of dental hygienists will be reviewed in most detail, demonstrating how the formation of professional identity interacts with that of inter-professional identity and how the professionalization of the profession through education and diversification of career paths can foster each member’s development of professional identity.
