Course Description
For over 60 years, the World Health Organization (WHO) has defined health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being.
Recent literature on workforce trends after the pandemic highlights the effects of burnout and fatigue on oral health providers' general health and work performance. Depending on the healthcare setting, daily challenges can be emotionally and physically draining for practitioners.
Empathy and compassion are fundamental to a provider's ability to connect with patients. Unfortunately, empathetic care can increase the risk of compassion fatigue. Dental providers must understand the factors influencing the occupational threat of emotional and physical exhaustion.
This course aims to raise awareness of the signs of compassionate fatigue and equip practitioners with strategies to build resilience against the associated risks.

Presenter
Jeannette Diaz, MPH, MSDH, RDHAP
Jeannette is a keynote speaker, alternative practice dental hygienist, and public health educator. She has devoted her life to providing oral healthcare to underserved communities through her portable dental hygiene practice, which she owns and operates. As an empath, Jeannette deeply enjoys connecting with patients. She is dedicated to the human side of healthcare, especially helping to increase access to care and assisting patients in overcoming dental trauma. Jeannette was awarded the President's Commitment to Diversity Award from MCPHS University and was a recipient of the 2021 Sunstar RDH Award of Distinction.
