SEMINAR
Description
Dental hygiene research is pertinent to the growing body of healthcare knowledge, and it is the profession's foundation and a driving force in evidence-based practice. Research areas can be specific to clinical care, education, population health promotion, disease prevention, technology, and workforce issues.
Dental hygienists play a fundamental role in advancing the profession through science, evidence, and clinical practice. This program aims to support the dissemination of original work conducted and authored by dental hygienists while inspiring others to consider a pathway in research. In this session, we will focus on peri-implant disease and dental implant maintenance.

Insights and Feedback from a 2023 Survey on Probing Dental Implants
Dental hygienists are currently discussing whether or not they should use periodontal probes when working with dental implants, as there are concerns about the potential risks to the implant surface or tissue. To gather information on this topic, a survey was conducted in 2023 among 133 dental hygienists from different regions of the United States. The survey aimed to understand attitudes towards probing dental implants, experiences, knowledge, training, and reasons for not probing. Based on the survey results, this presentation will review the study's findings and propose a standard of care for probing dental implants among dental hygienists.
Educational Objectives:
Discuss insights and valuable feedback from the 2023 survey on probing dental implants.
Examine periodontal probes and the major differences between them.
Identify the suitable probe(s) for examining dental implants.
Propose a standard of care for probing dental implants among dental hygienists.
The Importance of Early Intervention and Biofilm Eradication in the Nonsurgical Treatment of Peri-Implantitis: Two Clinical Cases
NICOLE FORTUNE, MBA, RDH
Clinical case reporting involves documenting a patient's symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and progress in detail. Case reports are commonly published to discover unexpected associations between diseases or symptoms, identify unique features of a disease, or develop effective therapeutic approaches.. In this presentation, Nicole Fortune will discuss two clinical cases highlighting the importance of early intervention in the nonsurgical treatment of peri-implantitis and eradicating biofilm for the best treatment outcomes.
Educational Objectives:
Recognize the significance of early intervention and eradication of biofilm in the treatment of peri-implantitis.
Explore multiple therapies available for treating peri-implantitis to achieve the best possible results.
Discuss the unpredictability of treating peri-implant disease.
